Short Termism

Who Would be a Fund Manager?

Many of you may know the name of Investment Manager Neil Woodford; for almost 30 years he has been the stand out performer when it comes to UK Equities. However; this year has been well below par and some of the holdings in his funds have suffered terribly – the most significant being the 67% one day decline in shares in Provident Financial. This Citywire Article provides a lot more background on what’s been going on; the last paragraph is important as it should remind everyone of what happened in the Tech Bubble in 2000 when Invesco kept faith with Mr Woodford when many other firms lost faith in managers who weren’t chasing Tech firms. The short term view is emphaised by some of the comments on the bottom of the page that is littered with criticism.
